I WILL FOLLOW THE SHIP

I WILL FOLLOW THE SHIP is the title of the Maltese Pavilion at the 60th Biennale Arte di Venezia 2024.

In this project the artist Matthew Attard utilises an eye-tracker to record the movement of his eyes to explore the symbolism of ship graffiti etchings that can be found on remote Maltese chapel walls.

The visual identity was developed around Matthew Attard’s interplay between the ‘eye’ and ‘I’ in his work. It makes use of 3 line types with singular or multiple points to show this interaction, one of which the artist himself contributed by eye-tracking the graphical elements of the identity.

The visuals were extended to other communications, such as the exhibition’s information graphics, printed matter, website design and digital assets.

Visit the 2024 Malta Pavilion website for more information about the project.
